Unveiling!

Here it is: the revamp of the Were Directory!
So far, the ‘Full List’ and ‘Sort By: Theriotype/Kintype Focus’, ‘Angel’ through ‘Fiction’ are online. Expect the rest in the next few days, as well as some descriptions and instructions in the sidebars.
I’ll be accepting reviews immediately. Simply comment on any page, and I will attach your review to the appropriate entry. Here’s the form you should follow:
“[Opinion and reasoning about website.] [Optional rating out of five stars.]” -[Name] [Optional link to personal website/blog/etc]

What do you think?

Big News!

With any luck, the WereDirectory will soon be undergoing a revamp. In the ‘new version’ I will have added some new links, as well as a sidebar with some widgets and information. This will enable me to provide more information and fun (!) on all pages.

In addition, I will be adding some new information to each entry, along with a ‘review’ feature. (Reviews will have to be submitted via comment, as there is no built-in feature of this variety on WordPress.) Here is an example of a new listing:

Title: The WereDirectory
Author/Webmaster/Moderator: GestaltZe
Type: Resource
Focus: Therianthropy/Otherkin
Rating/Review/Additional information:

“This is a fairly inclusive website that lists otherkin/therianthropy sites. It is informative and easy to navigate. I highly recommend it to anyone who is looking for a wide range of therianthropy information! 5 stars!” -GestaltZe
“This website is terrible! I hate the information, and the layout sucks! If you want a good therianthropy resource, go somewhere else!” -SummonerWolf
“I’m a banana, I’m a banana, I’m a banana, LOOK AT ME MOVE!” -Bananas
(Comment to add a review.)

(Obviously, it would be silly for the WereDirectory to have its own entry. But you get the idea.)
As you can see, I have also eliminated the ‘table’ present in the old format. This (hopefully) will be easier for viewing, because it is certainly easier for posting (I have had a lot of formatting issues, copy-pasting to and from various programs: Microsoft Excell, Microsoft Word, OpenOffice Calc (?), OpenOffice Writer… The list goes on.)
Also, I have removed the ‘activity level’ from each bio. I have no definitive way of knowing the activity level of each site, and any speculation is hit-and-miss.
The last change I am planning on making is to the layout. The current layout is single-column and doesn’t allow for widgets. If you have any suggestions for a layout that will better suit our needs, or have other suggestions for the future of the site, please drop me a line.
Thank you!
-GestaltZe

Duotone?

Note: It cleared my whole textbox, for some reason.

I need to do a sweep of Google and Yahoo search soon to check if there’s more additions I can make.

I’m considering using the new theme, Duotone, to use a screenshot of each site. This would give each site more attention and allow me to give longer descriptions, making it more like a ‘spotlight’ of each site than a list.
I don’t know if I’ll be able to keep both the ‘spotlight’ and the ‘list’ form available simultaneously, short of creating a new site, so I’ll have to ask my friends who are more familiar with coding and with WordPress. It looks like I will be able to keep both, after a second glance at the theme.
In the meantime, what do you think of the idea?

Still Here

I added one new site: True Self. It’s been slower than I anticipated. There are a few sites I will add soon, when I have determined where to put them, and if I have permission to post them.
Mostly, this entry is to assure anyone who is viewing (not that anyone is) that I am still here, and that I am still updating.

Never fear, SummonerWolf is here.

EDIT: Since it is hardly good form to write a new post every time a site is added to the list, I will edit to tell you that I am very proud to have added a favorite of mine: Tranimal.net. The actual site is no longer functioning, so I have gotten permission to upload the writings to drop.io and keep them available.
Thank you.

Some Notes

Recently, I’ve become very interested in the idea of researching and cataloging the therian community; we are a remarkably interesting and diverse group. (Yesterday I used WereSource’s Stats to discover that over half of the WereSource members are male- opposite what I had anticipated. Do you suppose that’s true for the rest of the therian community?)
My newest project in this vein has been a comprehensive list of all therianthropy and otherkin sites on the internet. Let me tell you; not an easy task- we are scattered across every corner of the web, and each topic bleeds into the next, leaving no set lines.

Nevertheless, I believe I have compiled more therian sites than has ever been grouped together before, and with any luck, this will be an ever changing list.

A few notes on the matter:

- I have had some level of difficulty deciding what fits on this list and what doesn’t. For instance, I have included one or two vampire sites, but due to my lack of knowledge about the vampiric subculture, I have more or less left it alone. If you would like me to add vampires and/or something else to this list, all you need to do is ask.

- This list – as I said – is definitely incomplete. I have gotten what I can from sifting through Yahoo! and Google searches, along with link pages provided by kind therians, but the fact remains that some sites have certainly stayed off the radar. If you have a site I have overlooked, I will gladly review and post it.

- Many of the sites here are inactive and marked as such. This is (I believe) because many of the sites were created when the community was first beginning (1992) and a great deal of the original members have since left the community. Some of these inactive sites are still quite useful, others are not. It’s up to you to decide.

- ‘ETC’ is a rather undeveloped portion as of now. Perhaps in the future I will eliminate it and replace it with a description for every site. Until then, it’s just (silly) notes that I had along the way.

- This list was a bit discouraging. It was smaller than I expected, but moreover, it includes some sites and people that I believe have a rather warped definition of what it means to be a therian. I say this not in the interest of admonishing anyone, but to say that I have listed ALL therian and otherkin sites; I do not endorse all of them.

Hello world!

Here we are: what will hopefully become an exhaustive list of therianthropy websites on the internet.
I’ve been looking into starting this website for a while, and my friend keeps telling me about what a ‘powerful tool’ WordPress is.
It may develop into something very interesting- we’ll see!

In the mean time, here’s a collection of informative writings on therianthropy. Or, for the particularly lazy, here’s my definition.
